For the second year in a row, the AFT Black Caucus partnered with Harlem-based Johnson Design Consulting to provide year-end holiday cheer and toys for children in the pediatric ward and emergency room at Harlem Hospital Center. “The kids loved it; they just lit up,” said Manhattan Special Representative Zina Burton-Myrick, the committee chair, as she — dressed in an elf costume, replete with tinkling bells — joined the Johnson Design Consulting’s Michael Preston and other caucus members — Co-Chair Lisa Wilson, Brooklyn Special Representative Theresa Samuels, District 28 Representative Angela Artis, and Talent Unlimited HS student Zakia Myrick — to bring some needed joy to sick children on Dec. 21. “It made their day,” Burton-Myrick said. Dr. Vincent Hutchinson, the director of the hospital’s pediatric department, who accompanied the group during their gift giving, heartily agreed.
