The only thing missing was the United States Marine Corps Band and the Capitol Dome. Otherwise, Inauguration Day at PS 181 in the Bronx on Jan. 25 had much of the same pomp and circumstance as the swearing-in of President Obama four days earlier in Washington, D.C. But at this event, the inaugural address was delivered by the 7th-grade class president, who reassured the 500 parents, students and community leaders in attendance that, “though our road has been hard, while our journey has been long, we picked ourselves up, we fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America, the best is yet to come.” The school’s second inauguration celebration, a reprise of the first held four years ago, included an inaugural ball with students from every grade participating in an evening of song and dance to mark the occasion. Following the entertainment, guests enjoyed an inaugural dinner prepared by teacher-chef Annette Adams.
