The UFT helped students from the Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance get a head start on their futures on April 1 by hosting the high school’s annual Career Day at the union’s Brooklyn borough office. It’s the school’s sixth Career Day, with the number of organizations offering the high school students a glimpse of possible careers growing each year. “It’s very important to get students out of their usual environment and give them this exposure,” said UFT District 16 Representative Camille Eaddy, who oversaw the event. The 100 students divided into groups for panel discussions with universities, unions, companies and other potential employers to explore possible careers and the educational pathways that lead to them. The school’s chapter leader, Pauline Brown, said the event has been such a success that two former Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance students who attended previous Career Days returned this year — as panelists. “They came back,” said Brown, “to show these students what they can accomplish.”
