The UFT was again an active participant in the New York State Legislative Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Caucus, which this year observed its 40th anniversary on Feb. 19 in Albany. UFT Vice Presidents Karen Alford and Sterling Roberson joined charter school parents, community leaders and educators on a seminar panel called “Cradle to College — Best Practices in Educating Our Children,” which was sponsored by Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries. At a panel on “How Can We Work Together to Stop School Closings,” a teacher and student from a closing school joined UFT President Michael Mulgrew, Assemblywoman Inez Barron, City Councilman Charles Barron, parents and education advocates. Assemblywoman Barron sponsored the panel.
