The extraordinary creativity of New York City public school teachers is on display at the Brecht Forum Gallery at 451 West St., Manhattan, in the Spring 2011 Artist/Teacher Exhibition through June 26. The work of 33 teachers is featured in the exhibit sponsored by the New York City Art Teachers Association/UFT, which has been featuring work done by teachers at its biannual shows for more than 30 years. NYCATA President Joan Davidson spoke of the variety of subject matter, style and points of view represented at the show. “Each of us has a style,” she said at the June 9 opening. And at NYCATA’s End of the Year Celebration held at the Museum of Modern Art on June 10, former UFT Vice President Frank Carucci was honored for his many years as an advocate for the arts in the city’s public schools. Also honored were Brian Resiman of PS 17 in the Bronx, Pearl Lau of PS 230, Brooklyn, and Robert Aviles of IS 347, Brooklyn. Androneth Sieunarine of Fashion Industry HS coordinated the exhibit.
