UFT honors leader for community work

Pastoral anniversary of Brooklyn bishop

Miller Photography

UFT President Michael Mulgrew helped honor Bishop Wilbur L. Jones Sr. on Feb. 27 recognizing his 39 years of service as a pastor and spiritual leader in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community of Brooklyn with the Beulah Church of God in Christ Jesus. Through the Agape Ministry, Jones has helped to provide food and clothing for the less fortunate in the community. Mulgrew joined the more than 400 people who turned out to honor the bishop at the event, and presented him with a plaque (above) from the UFT commending him for being an ally “in the struggle for quality education, social and economic justice.” Sandra Marie Jones, the bishop’s wife, is seated on the stage. Also present were his daughter, Tiffane Jones, a UFT chapter leader at IS 78 in Brooklyn, and several other UFT members.
