From old-school sketching with live models to cutting-edge drones and 3D printers, the UFT Spring Education Conference’s exhibit hall put the best of New York City’s career and technical education high schools on display. Dozens of exhibits from CTE schools around the city showcased programs as diverse as massage therapy, nursing, agriculture, architecture and dentistry. “It was amazing to see our young scholars pursue career opportunities,” said Kino Quashie, a special education teacher at the HS for Global Citizenship. Quashie said the fair, which included a display of vintage educational memorabilia and giveaways, provided “a great opportunity, as a teacher, to network with different colleagues.” Many of the exhibits were interactive, allowing UFT members to get their hair styled, enjoy freshly made snacks or get a blood pressure reading — all from students at CTE schools putting what they learned into practice.
