“There is tech in journalism and tech in culinary,” said Sterling Roberson, the UFT’s vice president for career and technical education high schools. Tech4All, an all-day information session and job fair at the union’s Bronx borough office, brought together students, parents and educators to gain valuable information about topics such as the training required for entry-level job certification in CTE fields and how to find employers who pay college tuition.The 500 participants enjoyed panels, workshops, employer booths and technology demonstrations at the April 3 event presented by the UFT and 25 corporate and education sponsors. “Parents and communities need to be informed about tech job opportunities and they need to know they must network to benefit from them,” Roberson said. Shajada Brown, a teacher at PS 112 in the Bronx, said, “It was inspirational to hear from those who had had serious problems and difficult childhoods and then used tech jobs to make better lives for themselves.”
