Mulgrew addresses the group. UFT President Michael Mulgrew met with members of the city’s 32 Community Education Councils on Dec. 17 at UFT headquarters to exchange views on a host of topics. The CECs are the representative bodies that parents can join to make their voices heard on overall city public school policy. Among the topics discussed were teacher evaluations, school-based budgets, school safety, the shortening of the February school break, the importance of career and technical education, and parents’ struggles to influence Department of Education planning. Also present were members of the Citywide Councils on Special Education and English Language Learners and a number of community activists.
