    Join us for our "Speech Survival Class." The class is recommended for any speech teachers who have been with the Department of Education for less than three years, recently hired or returning to the Board after a prolonged absence.

    The syllabus will cover topics that will help you to understand and manage your roles and responsibilities on the job. The class is offered in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Registration is required.

District 19 Superintendent Thomas McBryde Jr. will join us to discuss the best evidence of teacher practice and student learning and to answer your questions. Light refreshments will be served.

  • High School Workshop: Using Google Apps for Educators Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

    Classroom technology can enhance instruction, promote student learning, and cultivate an environment of respect and engagement. In this workshop, participants will learn the ways in which the Google Apps for Education can be used to facilitate classroom collaboration, streamline parental engagement, and bring dynamism to everyday instruction. Participants will learn how to access the cloud, create and share files, as well as collaborate on projects with colleagues and students. You must have an active Gmail account to participate in this workshop. A $10 fee is required to participate.

    Smart Board Training Workshop 1.0 for Per Diem members only. A representative from the Teacher Center will lead a workshop of 35 people who must send an email to uftprofessionalcommittees@uft.org. Only the first 35 will be selected.

    Student engagement in learning is integral to a successful classroom. This workshop will address ways that educators can promote critical thinking and analysis in a manner that is both engaging and rigorous for students. Particular attention will be paid to the strategies teachers can use that incorporate the Common Core Learning Standards in a seamless and practical manner across all disciplines. A $10 fee is required to participate.
