• Bookmaking in the Classroom, Part 2 (LearnUFT Elementary Schools) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

  Part 2 of this hands-on interdisciplinary workshop continues to explore a variety of ways to showcase individual student work and make additional types of books like accordion and character books. Participants will use the NYS Next Generation Standards as the foundation to incorporate art into content area instruction.

• Manipulatives in the Math Classroom (LearnUFT Queens) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

  In this LearnUFT session for Queens teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will develop an understanding of how the use of manipulatives in the math classroom impacts student mathematical thinking and builds conceptual knowledge. Participants will also engage in productive struggle with the use of hands on materials to explore and apply mathematical vocabulary. Two CTLE hours will be given.

  How do educators know if instruction is impacting student learning? This LearnUFT session for teachers and paraprofessionals in Queens will focus on how to use formative assessments to check for understanding to guide student learning and instructional practice. Two CTLE hours will be given.

  In celebration of Black History Month in February, the UFT invites members to a film series exploring African-American history. Following the screening of each documentary, there will be a discussion. These free events will take place on Thursdays at UFT headquarters (52 Broadway) from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 14's screening is Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin.
