  • ELLs in the Mathematics Classroom (LearnUFT Brooklyn) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Brooklyn teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will describe the characteristics of language performance at each proficiency level. Participants will also be able to name strategies that can be implemented at each proficiency level to provide students with access to mathematical problems. Two CTLE hours will be offered.

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Brooklyn teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine the research that demonstrates how continuous vocabulary development strengthens students as independent learners, unpack the Common Core Language Standards for Vocabulary and learn strategies for explicit instruction of vocabulary. Two CTLE hours will be offered.

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Brooklyn teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine research-based practices to support students before reading complex text; experience pre-reading activities that encourage students to make connections that will foster deeper comprehension during reading; and apply strategies that motivate and engage students with task and text. Participants will receive two CTLE hours.

  • Working Together: Integrated Partnerships in the ENL Classroom (LearnUFT Brooklyn) Workshop 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

    In this LearnUFT workshop for Brooklyn teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will understand the value of teacher partnerships when supporting English language learners in the integrated classroom, determine the components of effective co-teaching and build a toolbox of techniques for the integrated ENL classroom.     In this LearnUFT workshop for Brooklyn teachers and paraprofessionals, participants will examine beliefs about home language and culture to ensure the whole child comes into the classroom; consider the value of strengthening the child's first language to foster learning and develop proficiency in English; and explore strategies to scaffold instruction for children in the classroom in order to increase access to content. Participants will receive two CTLE hours.
