Update on 2015 civil service exam results

We know you are concerned about the 2015 civil service exam results. The DOE tells us that it has completed hiring from the list of people who passed the exam. So, for now, the DOE can keep people in a provisional status. However, the only way to truly protect yourself is for you to pass an appropriate civil service test for your title. For this reason, we have negotiated an agreement that the city Department of Citywide Administrative Services will administer a new exam by November 2018 and release a new list by November 2019.

We believe the 2015 test was poorly constructed and did not accurately reflect the work that most of you do. We hired an expert in civil service exams and an outside law firm and we were prepared to file a lawsuit to challenge the validity of the exam if necessary. But, even if we had won, you would still have had to pass a valid test to be appointed. Therefore, the most important thing we could do for you was to ensure a new exam was administered and the results released as soon as possible. This agreement does that and, if DCAS misses the deadlines, we have reserved our right to file a lawsuit.

Our next chapter meeting is Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 5:30 p.m. at the UFT Brooklyn borough office, 335 Adams St., 24th floor, rooms 3 and 4. I hope I see you there.
