Grievance victories bring recompense to those who apply for it

The union has won grievances for those members who are reimbursed for use of their cars, and for Early Childhood Coordinators who were mandated to work in August. The DOE had tried to unilaterally change the carfare reimbursement protocol by offering a new higher mileage rate of 48.5 cents per mile but no guaranteed minimum. However, the chancellor's representative agreed with the union's position that any member who uses their car should be reimbursed at 28 cents per mile or a guaranteed 30 miles per day ($8.40). All those who have not been paid at that rate should notify you, the chapter leader, and you should pass the information on to your district rep.
In addition, tell any Early Childhood Coordinator who was mandated to work Aug. 8 or 10, or both days, to contact Gail Kramer at gkramer@uft.org. Because of the grievance decision, they will be permitted to credit those days toward the five additional days that teachers assigned are required to work.
