The UFT Elementary and Secondary Charter Schools
In September 2005, the United Federation of Teachers joined with students, parents, teachers and community leaders to create the country’s first union-operated public charter schools.
The UFT Elementary Charter School is located at 300 Wyona Street in East New York, Brooklyn. For the 2006-2007 school year, the school will enroll 225 students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. In September 2006, the UFT will open The UFT Secondary Charter School. Located at 800 Van Siclen Avenue in East New York, the school will open with 125 students in 6th grade. It will add a new class of students every year until it enrolls approximately 750 students in 6th through 12th grade.
