Position: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
Location of Activity: 300 Wyona Street, Brooklyn, NY 11207
Deadline: April 30, 2008
The UFT Elementary Charter School is accepting applications for Early Childhood Special Education Teacher.
Qualifications
-
A belief that all students can achieve academic and personal excellence

A belief in the importance of public education as a means to prepare a democratic citizenry
-
Demonstrated ability as a classroom teacher working with a diverse group of children, including those with special needs (minimum three years of experience)
-
An understanding of a range of learning strategies and instructional techniques to provide standards-based learning experiences
-
Demonstrated ability to problem solve effectively
-
Strong communication skills
-
Proficiency in formal and informal assessments and the use of student achievement data, to develop educational priorities and to drive decision-making
-
New York State certification in elementary education (special consideration will be given
-
to candidates with Early Childhood license or certification)
-
Knowledge of child development theories and appropriate classroom practices
-
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers in developing and implementing standards-based curriculum that addresses diverse learning needs
-
Willingness to participate in and/or provide professional development experiences for the school community
-
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and with parents/guardians
Responsibilities
-
Embody, preserve, and promote the school’s mission, purpose, and core values
-
Teach students and coordinate their learning experiences to ensure that students meet or exceed NYS learning standards
-
Develop lesson plans and coordinate with grade-alike colleagues in the development of interdisciplinary units of study
-
Provide direct and indirect instruction that is aligned with student, class, and grade-level short and long term goals
-
Participate and collaborate in a variety of professional development activities to enrich teaching practices
-
Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management
-
Prepare individual student achievement reports for parents/guardians
-
Establish and maintain meaningful partnerships with colleagues, family members, and the school community
-
Perform other school duties as necessary to support the school
