The UFT Elementary Charter School
Position: Paraprofessionals
Location of Activity: 300 Wyona Street, Brooklyn, NY 11207
Deadline: April 30, 2008
The UFT Elementary Charter School is accepting applications for Paraprofessionals.
Qualifications
-
A belief that all students can achieve academic and personal excellence

A belief in the importance of public education as a means to prepare a democratic citizenry
-
Demonstrated ability to problem solve effectively
-
Strong communication skills
-
Willingness to participate in professional development experiences
-
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and with parents/guardians
-
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with the School Leader, teachers and other staff in a school founded on democratic values and committed to democratic governance
-
Ability to adapt to changes in the school environment and daily assignments
-
Two or more years of continuous demonstrated satisfactory performance as an Educational Paraprofessional
-
A passing score on the NYSATAS (NYS Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills) or the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST)
-
Candidates with an associate or baccalaureate degrees will be given special consideration
Responsibilities
-
Embody, preserve, and promote the school’s mission, purpose, and core values
-
Work with and take direction from the classroom teacher, the Lead Teacher and the School Leader, to address individual needs of students
-
Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management
-
Establish and maintain meaningful partnerships with colleagues, family members, and the school community
-
Support learners as they work on tasks and provide feedback to advance academic growth
-
Collect data documenting student learning and behaviors for instructional purposes
-
Support teacher in establishing an inviting, innovative, learning environment
-
Reinforce student behavior through the use of positive behavior supports, as outlined by the school code of behavior
-
Participate in a variety of professional development opportunities for the school community
-
Interact with members of the school community in a positive manner
-
Perform other school duties as necessary to support the school
