Position: Charter School Operations Manager
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), the Charter School Operations Manager has primary responsibility for managing and executing the UFT’s commitments, as partner organization, to the UFT Elementary Charter School, the UFT Secondary Charter School, and Green Dot New York Charter School. The objective of this senior-level position is to establish, develop, and carry-out operational best practices with a team of school-based and UFT-based personnel to ensure high-quality services to schools. Functions and short-term deliverables include:
Green Dot New York Charter School Operations
- Work with Green Dot Public Schools, the Principal of Green Dot New York Charter School and the UFT to successfully replicate the Green Dot school model.
- Assist the Principal in developing and implementing the School’s operational policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the school’s student recruitment, admissions, and enrollment, provision of transportation services, food and health services, student files and recordkeeping, regulatory compliance, and student assessment administration.
- Manage the school’s regulatory obligations for students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Serve as point-of-contact with Green Dot Public Schools Inc.’s administrative staff.
- Codify Green Dot New York Charter School best practices to support national expansion.
- Recruit and train a mid-level operations coordinator and transition day-to-day operational responsibilities to this person.
UFT Partner Organization Commitments
- Serve as liaison between the UFT’s administrative and operational offices to support and enhance the delivery of high-quality support services to the three schools. Offices include business and financial services, procurement, information technology, human resources, printing, and media and communications.
- Work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Operations for the UFT Elementary and Secondary Charter School.
Authorizer and Department of Education Relations
- Manage and maintain a positive and productive relationship between all three schools and the State University of New York Charter Schools Institute, the New York State Education Department, and the New York City Department of Education.
- Assist the three schools in preparation for oversight visits by regulatory agencies.
- Assist in the development, completion, and on-time submission of accountability reports including but not limited to Green Dot New York Charter School’s Accountability Plan, state-mandated annual reports for all three schools, and the charter renewal application for the UFT Charter School.
Boards of Trustees
- Work closely with the Chairmen of the Green Dot New York Charter School and UFT Charter School to prepare monthly Board of Trustees meeting agendas, coordinate meeting dates, times, and attendance, ensure compliance with Board by-laws, develop Board and school policies, facilitate Board training, and manage Board meetings.
Other
- Assist all three schools, the UFT, and Green Dot Public Schools, Inc. on issues of communications, media relations, fundraising and other issues as they arise.
- Assist with the potential development of additional Green Dot or Green Dot-inspired union partnership charter schools in New York City and/or in other cities.
Qualifications
- A belief that all students can achieve academic and personal excellence
- A belief in the importance of public education as a means to prepare a democratic citizenry
- Expert knowledge of charter school operation
- Demonstrated administrative and organizational ability
- A record of the successful preparation of official educational records, documents, and compliance reports
- Demonstrated ability to write policy briefs and recommendations, grants and proposals
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with numerous stakeholders including students, parents/guardians, community organizations, vendors, partner organizations, charitable foundations, and other supporters
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve effectively
- Proficiency in collection and analysis of student achievement data
- Strong communication skills
