UFT Secondary Charter School
Opened in September 2006, this tuition-free public school is sponsored by the largest union of New York City’s professional educators, the United Federation of Teachers. The school has:
- No more than 25 students per class
- Highly qualified, accomplished teachers
- A rigorous college-prep curriculum that includes English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, physical education and the arts, and college courses in the 11th and 12th grades
- An extended-day schedule, with homework assistance and tutoring
- A fair and firm student code of behavior
- Weekly community service activities
- Advisories to develop work habits, values of responsibility, and conflict resolution skills
- A student dress code to build school pride
- A welcoming environment to students and families
- Yellow school bus transportation (if eligible)
