Position: Science Teacher
Location of Activity: 800 Van Siclen Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11207

Qualifications:
-
A relentless belief that all students can achieve academic and personal excellence;

A belief in the importance of public education as a means to prepare a democratic citizenry
-
New York State certification in the appropriate subject area within the secondary (6-12) grades (special consideration will be given to candidates with National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification);
-
A demonstrated record of excellence as a classroom teacher, working with diverse children, including those with special needs;
-
Expert pedagogy with an understanding of a range of learning strategies, instructional techniques, and strategies in providing standards-based learning experiences;
-
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially with the School Leader, teachers and other staff in a school founded on democratic values and committed to democratic governance;
-
Proficiency in formal and informal assessments and the use of quantitative and qualitative student achievement data to drive decision-making;
-
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers in developing and implementing standards-based curriculum that addresses diverse learning needs;
-
Willingness to participate in and/or provide professional development experiences for the school community;
-
Familiarity with the current and historical debates in educational content and curriculum;
-
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with parents/guardians;
-
Diplomatic persistence, determination, and problem-solving skills;
-
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
-
Embody, preserve, and promote the school’s mission, purpose, and core values;
-
Teach students and coordinate their learning experiences to ensure the attainment of NYS learning standards;
-
Lead a student advisory;
-
Develop lesson plans and coordinate with grade level colleagues in the development of interdisciplinary units of study and subject area colleagues in the development of curriculum;
-
Provide direct and indirect instruction that are aligned with student, class, grade-level, and subject area short and long term goals;
-
Participate and collaborate in a variety of professional development activities to enrich teaching practices;
-
Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management;
-
Prepare individual student achievement reports to parents/guardians;
-
Establish and maintain meaningful partnerships with colleagues, family members, and the school community;
-
Perform other educational duties as necessary.
