Letter Signed by 40 Faculty Members and Sent to Management
|
May 10, 2004 Katharine Gibbs School Management Dear Katharine Gibbs Management: It is the belief of the faculty that since conversations that impact our lives happen at the negotiation table, it should be our right to witness the discussions. In the past, many faculty members have attended the negotiation sessions, so why has it suddenly become such an issue that the management felt compelled to leave the negotiation session on May 4 altogether? Contrary to the school’s claim that most of the faculty who attend the sessions does not know the history of the contract negotiations, many of us have gone to multiple negotiation sessions and have followed the process very carefully. Furthermore, it is our understanding that management representatives agreed to a change of location so that there would be enough room for faculty members who wished to attend the session. Management also inexplicably wanted to expel two of our newer representatives and then vanished without a word. Why should management have a right to dictate the makeup of our committee? We, the faculty, want to believe that management is committed wholeheartedly to the process of securing us a contract. However, the recent actions and correspondences from the school do nothing to ensure us of this commitment. On the contrary, they inflame the situation and prolong the process. Abandoning the negotiation session without notifying our representatives is not a sign of dedication to securing us a contract. Sincerely,
