Spring 2005

Three New Hospital Contracts Feature Raises, Increased Benefits, No Givebacks

Federation of Nurses/UFT members won the Trifecta in a series of tough bargaining rounds when negotiating committees wrested good contracts out of three separate employers earlier this year.

The settlements with the Visiting Nurse Service, Lutheran Medical Center and Staten Island University Hospital-South Site all came at the 11th hour after exhaustive bargaining, with members prepared to strike each of the three facilities if contracts were not signed on time.

When an agreement was finally reached with each employer, members then overwhelming ratified the proposed contracts. Each one provides significant improvements in wages and benefits — and all were won with no givebacks.

VNS Registered Nurses crowd in to vote on proposed contract, which was ratified overwhelmingly.
