A para for 19 years at PS 86, Christina Rosado assists her school’s para rep by disseminating union information to paras at three sites, attending rallies, meetings, and many other functions.
She was especially delighted to take part in the 2006 SRP (School-Related Professionals) Recognition Day, and celebrate the contributions of Maria Portalatin, the retired long-term para chapter leader.
Christina wants to make a difference in people’s lives, certainly at school but also in her community. She has volunteered at the East Harlem Tutoring Center, the annual AIDS Walk and worked with victims of domestic violence. She also is active at a major semi-annual health exposition at the New Yorker Hotel, and at the Pregones Theater.
Christina received a B.A. degree — cum laude — in 1999 and taught for one year before choosing to be a para. She gets much satisfaction in seeing her special education students benefit from her tending to their individual needs.
