Dale Sanders

An educator for more than 33 years and a paraprofessional in the New York City public schools for 19 — the last 10 at PS 127 — Dale Sanders is, according to her chapter leader, “an inspiration to the entire school community” because of her “hard work, dedication and compassion.” Her nomination for this award was also endorsed by her principal, who appreciates her many school activities and who called her “a great support to all the classroom teachers she has worked with.”

Among her many activities, Dale coordinates after-school recreational activities for students, food and clothing drives and Penny Harvest.

She is a cancer survivor who has raised funds for research and spearheaded a “Light the Night Walk” to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. At the request of the director of the hospital, Dale spoke publicly at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new cancer facility at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital. This inspiring presentation drew considerable media attention. She was on the Dean’s List and graduated with honors from York College where she earned her B.A. degree in education.
