Irma Rodriquez

For more than 20 years Irma Rodriquez has served as a pre-K and kindergarten paraprofessional at PS 137. Until the budget was cut, Irma was the school’s Writing to Read facilitator. But even after returning to the classroom, she has continued to use her expertise with that program to assist many of the teachers.
Irma has been active as para representative, para district coordinator and then as Manhattan para borough coordinator. She has been a para executive board member, a PM staffer, a delegate to both AFT and NYSUT conventions and to the UFT Delegate Assembly.
As a diligent unionist Irma marches in the Labor Day parade, works the phones before elections, and attends Lobby Day in Albany. During recent contract fights she leafleted, attended rallies, and made herself available for whatever might be asked. She has also joined in the Cancer Walk and other humanitarian causes.
Irma was nominated for her outstanding work and for the temperament that has made others feel “blessed to be on a team with such an able person who cheers up everybody, even on hard days.”
In her scant free time she enjoys cooking and arts and crafts.
