Letters to the Parascope
Praising the UFT Career Ladder Program
Dear Ms. Portalatin:
I have been waiting to write this letter for the past seven years. I became
a paraprofessional in 1997, joined the Career Training Program and
finally received my degree in Mathematics and Education from Excelsior
College in Albany. It feels so good.
I just want to tell anyone who would
listen to me. Thanks to the Career Training Program I was able to attend
college at night and work during the day. I have three children and they’re
all very proud of me.
I am presently working as an inclusion paraprofessional for PS 256
in Queens at Beach Channel HS. I am planning to teach high school math
in the near future. I passed the certification exams for elementary,
middle and high school math. I’m set to go.
Thank you for the encouraging words and support printed in the ParaScope
throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Muriel M. Zwick
