A paraprofessional for seven years, Saneel Boodram works with 4th-grade inclusion kids in PS 226 at PS 76 in Harlem. In 2001, his school recognized him with an award for outstanding service and dedication. He says he strives to “reach out to each individual child I work with, giving them the strength, encouragement and that one smile they need to get them through the day.”

In 1999, Saneel earned a degree in filmmaking from New York Institute of Technology. He is a graphic designer and has tried his hand at writing screenplays. He uses his talents to teach creative art in PS 226’s after-school program. He also teaches 3rd grade test preparation for the Americorp-funded Harlem Children Zone.

Teachers he has assisted say Saneel has a “unique ability to listen to children.” His ambitions include becoming an elementary school teacher.
