LEAP TO TEACHER

The main purpose of the LEAP TO TEACHER program is to enable Paraprofessionals in the NYCDOE to further pursue their education and advance their career.

Come to one of our Open House sessions for UFT members and learn about grants and scholarship opportunities for eligible Teacher Assistants interested in teaching shortage areas as defined by the State: Math/ Sciences, TESOL, Special Education including dual certification in Bilingual/Special Education, Special Education/Early Childhood & Special Education/Middle School depending on the campus. We offer graduate and undergraduate degree programs.

All Fall 2009 Open House Sessions Meet from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m., except for Lehman that meets from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Leap to Teacher provides a full range of support services. These include:

• direct admission through LTT;
• providing free skills development workshops to prepare for the CUNY/ACT Skills Test;
• assigning an academic advisor to each student upon admission to the program;
• facilitating the registration and advisement of students for a positive and rewarding experience;
• providing flexible course offerings for education majors in early evening hours
• providing a variety of workshops in areas such as career development and time management;
• providing information about NYS requirements for teacher certification;
• providing a wide range of free NYS Teacher Certification Test preparation options (including online distance learning) prep classes;
• a supportive faculty, staff , and student community; and
• scholarship opportunities for eligible candidates.
