Welcome back to all social workers and psychologists!
I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break. By way of introduction, I am the newly elected chapter chairperson for the Social Workers and Psychologists Chapter in the UFT. At the outset of my term I wish to thank Ann Englesbe for her years of hard work and service to the chapter.
I am a doctoral psychologist and have previously served on our chapter’s executive board for 30 years, most recently as recording secretary. Since taking office this summer, I have been working to improve conditions for our members: working closely with Carmen Alvarez to prepare a statement in response to the Garth Harries recommendations; acting as a member of the contract negotiating committee (I have also been selected by the UFT leadership to be one of the members of the face-to-face negotiators with the DOE, a first for the chapter); meeting with the DOE’s Queens leadership; responding to phone calls and e-mails from chapter members; and working to arrange more convenient availability of the regional leadership of our chapter.
I will be working full-time out of the central UFT offices, on the 16th floor at 52 Broadway, and can be best reached by e-mail (mspinrad@uft.org), as this allows me to better keep track of and follow up with your personal issues; and also by phone at (212) 598-7724, where you can leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. You will find the schedule of the chapter’s general membership meetings – which I encourage all of you to attend! – as well as our executive board meetings here on the chapter’s Web page. While everyone is welcome to participate at all meetings, please bear in mind only members of the chapter executive board have voting rights on proposals.
I am looking forward to a successful year for this chapter and wish you a good and enjoyable year of service to our children.
