Medicare Part B Reimbursement for 2008 in August 2009

UFT retirees with a City Health Plan who had Medicare Part B deductions from their Social Security checks for 2008 are entitled to reimbursements from the City. Our union in conjunction with the Municipal Labor Committee worked very hard to attain this benefit for our retirees. The basic reimbursement for 2008 was $96.40 per month ($1,156.80 for the full year). The reimbursements will start going out the first week of August, 2009.

However, in 2008, Medicare Part B was means tested. Retirees who earned more than $82,000.00 for 2008 paid a surcharge on top of the $96.40. There will be instructions in the envelope which contains the traditional Medicare, Part B reimbursement for those who paid the surcharge as to what to do to receive the reimbursement for the surcharge.
