HRConnect for Secretaries

The DOE has agreed with our Chapter that Payroll Secretaries should have access to HRConnect, (718) 935-4000, on behalf of their staff members.  Please read the following guidelines:

When a Payroll Secretary calls HR Connect with an inquiry on behalf of a teacher or other employee at her/his school, Customer Service Representatives will:

  • Give status updates previously submitted on Leaves, Personal Tax and Data, and Benefits transactions. Requests for status updates for transactions handled outside of HR Connect will be transferred to the appropriate DHR department.
  • Confirm Benefits coverage.
  • Instruct on HR processes and how to optimally interact with HR Connect.

When a Payroll Secretary calls HR Connect with an inquiry on behalf of a teacher or other employee at her/his school, Customer Service Representatives won't:

  • Change personal data or enter a transaction for a third party. This is a security precaution put in place to protect DOE employees' personal information, and to comply with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. Payroll Secretaries should be instructed to advise the teacher or employee to call on their own behalf to complete transactions.
  • Provide Payroll Secretary job aids or advise on HR school-based processes (i.e., timekeeping, grace periods, how to fill out an OP198 form, etc.) Payroll Secretaries will be advised to refer these questions to Payroll Support at the school's ISC.

Keep in mind that you can contact me or your borough’s secretary coordinator if you need assistance with payroll or personnel issues.
