The Tuition Reimbursement Awards Program

This program is in its fourth year and we are proud to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2006 one-time tuition reimbursements for school secretaries. The fund is made possible by placing AFT ads in our newsletter (see the Officers and Contacts page) and through raffles at our yearly events. Secretaries, especially those who are single parents, have continually asked us why our employer does not provide monetary assistance for courses that are required for licensure. It’s a good question that the Department of Education has not answered. Rest assured that our chapter continues to demand tuition assistance from our employer through negotiations.

In the meantime, if you have taken the mandated “School Records and Accounts” course for two credits or other college courses that fulfill your four-credit requirement in education during the 2005-06 school year, you are eligible to apply for one of the $250 awards.

Recipients will be randomly selected from among those who qualify.

Awards will be presented at our annual gala luncheon on Saturday, June 3. Print out the application below, attach the requested materials and return as soon as possible. All completed applications must be received by the Brooklyn UFT office no later than May 8 to be eligible for selection. Previous year’s winners are not eligible to apply.
