Staff Development at its Best

This year we have had excellent participation at our speech chapter weekend workshops. In May, Dr. Tommie Robinson, Vice President of ASHA, presented a workshop on “Connecting Families.” All of the feedback was very positive for Dr. Robinson. Members said that he presented an interactive workshop with plenty of suggestions on engaging families and making the most of meetings and discussions with family. Many members asked for Dr. Robinson to come back to NYC and present a workshop on fluency disorders.

On June 9, Dr.Gary Rentschler from Duquesne University presented “Stuttering Therapy — Making Stuttering History.” Chapter Leader Bornemann saw Dr. Rentschler at the recent NYSSHLA conference in Buffalo and immediately hired him to lead one of our workshops. His practical suggestions and therapy techniques can be easily used with all current stuttering therapies. More than 120 chapter members came to this workshop and some have continued the discussion with Dr. Rentschler via e-mail after the workshop.
