Meeting with State Education Department

I am very concerned with the state guidelines that hinder members' ability to become teachers of students with speech and language disabilities. I will meet with officials from the State Education Department to address recruitment, certification and retention of speech teachers. We will discuss the initial certification requirements that hinder potential speech teachers from joining our ranks. We plan to propose loan forgiveness and financial incentives to retain Speech Pathologists currently employed for the DOE. I will keep you posted on what ideas may be implemented and other plans to further secure our jobs in the schools.
