Summer Learning Activities

As the school year draws to a close and thoughts invariably turn to summer vacation, we’d like to highlight two resources that purport to mix fun with learning. We think your students and their parents will appreciate them.

Several years ago Education World joined Barnes and Noble in developing summer reading lists by grade, along with reviews of new books, interviews with favorite authors and lots of ideas for summer projects to encourage reading. There are projects for kids to do individually or with their friends and there are even projects for families to do together.
You can access all of this information and more by visiting Education World’s Web site at www.education-world.com/summer_reading.

The American Federation of Teachers has also prepared a terrific online resource of fun/learning activities called the “AFT 2005 Summer Learning Calendar.” You can access the calendar at www.aft.org/calendar.
