When we introduced our “Crown” feature we noted that we would use it to shine the spotlight on a deserving person or persons whose laudatory exploits might otherwise go unnoticed. Over the years we’ve had many a praiseworthy recipient. Since this is the final issue of Elementary Matters, I’ve decided to take this opportunity to do something I’ve meant to do for some time.
I want to award this newsletter’s highest honor, a “CROWN” to every one of our members working in elementary schools across this city. You are what make elementary schools the special places they are. That you’ve had to do this in the face of a school system administration that’s bent on crushing individuality and creativity is tragic.
I hereby award “Crowns” to every teacher, every paraprofessional, every school secretary, every guidance counselor, every school psychologist and school social worker, every coach, every mentor, every attendance teacher, every school nurse, every occupational and physical therapist, and every speech improvement teacher, for your dedication to the students entrusted in our care.
Simply put, you are the best!
