Teachers of the Homebound
MESSAGE FROM CHAPTER LEADER
August-September 2007
Dear Teachers:
I would like to welcome you back for the start of the 2007-2008 school year. I hope that all of you enjoyed your summer break, whether it was for the entire summer o for the all-too-short time period following the “683” summer program.
I’m on my sabbatical this year, and we will shortly be having nominations and an election for a new Chapter Leader. Hopefully, this process will be completed by the end of September.
We have a new Principal on board. Sandy Ledesma has served as a Home Instruction AP in 4 out of 5 boroughs.
She is therefore very familiar with the operations of our program. She was my AP in Brooklyn for approximately a year and a half.
I also worked with her on the Home Instruction School Leadership Team. I always found Sandy to be very teacher oriented.
I am optimistic that Sandy will continue to have our program thrive. During the past 8 years, Richard Cooperman and many wonderful teachers gave us a program to be proud of. I’m certain that this will continue with Sandy.
I would like to thank all of you for the support you have given me during these past nine years. It’s been great getting to get to know so many of you whom I never would have otherwise known. I’m certain that when I return from my sabbatical, I will be involved with at least some Union activities again. I urge all of you to support the Union and your new Chapter Leader after he/she is elected. Even if you disagree with some of the Union’s decisions, remember that everything we have in terms of salary, health benefits, job security, sabbaticals, etc. is because of the actions of the Leadership AND the Members of the UFT!
I wish all of you a successful school year!!
Most Sincerely,
Ross Dubin,
UFT Chapter Leader, Teachers of the Homebound
