Rights and Duties

Licensing/Certification

  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
    Secretaries can receive college credits by earning qualifying scores on College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests. Subject to limitations, CLEP credits earned in professional education subjects and other appropriate subjects may be applied towards meeting the certification/licensing requirements of the New York State Education Department and/or the New York City Department of Education.

Salary Differentials

  • Requirements for Salary Differentials for School Secretaries
    Personnel Memorandum #19, 1999-2000: School secretaries who believe they may be eligible for either or both salary differentials in accordance with the requirements listed below should file immediately upon attaining eligibility in order to receive payment, if approved, on the earliest possible effective date.
  • Professional credit courses
    Our chapter works with the DOE to provide you with professional credit courses specifically for school secretaries that are offered throughout the year. These are courses in which you can earn three credits towards your differentials. However, they are not college credit courses and cannot be used towards your license requirements.
