UFT too close to Democrats

New York Teacher

As a longtime UFT member and now a retiree, I have seen the UFT accomplish much good over the years.

Unfortunately, especially over the last few years, the UFT has signed on to some political and social agendas that are clearly detrimental to the concerns of children — all in the name of maintaining its alliance with the Democratic Party. The UFT could be — and should be — a beacon of reasoned consideration of the issues that vex our nation.

But instead, I am saddened to say, it has opted for what UFT officers seem to consider a better way: holding on to the Democratic alliance no matter where it leads.

All teachers are entitled to a living wage for themselves and their families, but to what benefit if the UFT is signing on to an agenda that is corroding the very structure of the family?
