Irish American Heritage Committee

The Irish American Heritage Committee aims to disseminate information about the culture, literature and history of the Irish people. We hope this information will be used by teachers in New York City schools.

To that end, we host a number of activities for New York City public school teachers including our annual heritage event in March as well as a wide array of workshops and seminars on topics of interest to our members. We are proud to count among our past keynote speakers and workshop presenters the late Irish author Frank McCourt, whose passing we commemorated at our March 2010 heritage event.

We cherish our culture and must ensure that it is not forgotten. We must remember that Irish tradition was mostly oral; and it was this tradition, along with the writings of the monks in medieval Ireland, that kept the flame of scholarship alive in Europe during its darkest days. May it continue to shine brightly!
