What is the UFT Health and Cancer Helpline?

A full-time, experienced social worker and peer counselors provide practical help and emotional support for UFT members who have a life-threatening illness. They help members obtain a medical leave and navigate the insurance system. They provide support for those undergoing medical treatment. Referrals for social services such as individual, marriage, or group therapy and substance abuse treatment are also offered.
