All hands on tech

The Vernier/National Science Teachers Association Technology Awards promote the innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, graphing calculator or other handheld device in the science classroom. Maximum award: $1,000 in cash for the teacher, $3,000 in Vernier Products and up to $1,500 toward expenses to attend the annual NSTA National Convention. Eligibility: Current teachers of science in grades K–college.

Art museum tours offered

The Delaware Art Museum is looking for applications for the Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment. The fund finances tours of the museum for school groups in academic levels ranging from K to 12 as well as individual enrollment for children and teens in studio art classes and seasonal camps that teach the fundamentals of art. Grants range up to $500. All public, private and parochial schools in any state are eligible.

Cheap sleep in Brooklyn

Brooklyn Bedding announced that teachers and college students are eligible for a 25 percent discount. The discount allows state-licensed teachers, higher education professors and students to receive the discount off the retail price of any sleep product any time, including major purchases, such as mattresses and electric adjustable bases. The discount may be used online or in the store. The discount also includes free shipping on all orders.

Lawyer in the classroom

The Law Related Education Committee at the New York County Lawyers’ Association is continuing its outreach program to schools and community groups. The longtime program consists of attorneys and judges visiting classrooms and speaking on a variety of topics regarding the law, the courts and the justice system. Among the topics are: Jobs in the Justice System; Law as a Career; Immigration Law; Criminal Law; Civil Law; Family Law; Commercial Law; Constitutional Law; Cheating; Bullying; Fairness/Justice; When do you need a lawyer? A class visit to an active courtroom may also be requested.

It’s so easy being green

The New York City Department of Sanitation and the Citizens Committee for New York City will be awarding up to $1,000 to school green teams. Grants must be used for green team expenses such as recycling and garden projects, T-shirts/uniforms, school sustainability events and eco-friendly giveaways. New York City K–12 public schools are invited to apply. Grants are open in the fall and spring of each school year.

DEADLINE: Nov. 16 for fall applications.
