Talking with Children About Cancer

The United Federation of Teachers Welfare Fund (UFTWF) has expanded our collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) to offer all UFT public school professionals free access to Talking with Children About Cancer, a program designed to help adults communicate with children who have a loved one in their life with cancer.

Through telephonic consultation and educational group workshops, experienced MSK oncology social workers will provide UFT members with the tools they need to support students and their families with a loved one diagnosed with cancer. When a parent or caregiver is diagnosed with cancer, children and teenagers are profoundly impacted. School staff are often the first to notice changes in student behavior or mood. Being a source of comfort during this challenging time is vital to a child’s emotional well-being.

Members can access Talking with Children About Cancer by calling the UFTWF’s dedicated telephone line: 844-350-5034. You will be able to speak with an MSK social worker within one business day.
