UFT WORKING TO RESOLVE RETIREE CHECK SNAFU
The UFT learned that a system-wide problem with electronic fund transfers on the night of November 5 resulted in money being erroneously deducted from the accounts of thousands of our retiree members who rely on electronic pension payments. The union is working with the Bank of New York Mellon to quickly restore members' funds and make whole anyone who was harmed. The Bank of New York is crediting members' accounts in hopes of having everyone made whole by Monday morning. The bank also is sending letters to affected members saying that it will make them whole. To that end, affected members should be sure to keep a record of any bounced check fees or other charges as proof for reimbursement. The bank also has set up two toll-free phone numbers for members to call with their questions and concerns. The numbers are 1-800-627-8000 and 1-800-242-9100. Both numbers will be staffed from 7 a.m. to midnight all weekend long. Stay tuned to the UFT Hotline and our Web site, UFT.org, for updates.
