DOE discounts

The Department of Education offers discounts on products and services to its employees. You can get more information via the phone numbers and website addresses below, or by going to the DOE Employee Discount Page. (These are not UFT discounts, so you must contact the DOE for help.) Some of these discounts are from nonunion companies, but none are on the boycott list.

Are 14-year-olds laughing at your computer?

Maybe it’s time to get new equipment. Dell, Apple, Lenovo and Microsoft all offer discounts to DOE employees.

Dell offers a 10 percent discount on all Dell Dimension Desktops or Inspiron Notebooks to all New York City DOE employees, faculty and staff. Visit www.dell.com/nycdoe/epp for more information.

Apple offers up to a 10 percent discount on all Apple equipment including iPads, MacBooks and iMacs. To take advantage of these discounts, call 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or visit the Apple store for educators site.

Lenovo is now offering discounts on all products to DOE employees, faculty and staff. Please visit www.lenovo.com/NYCDOEEPP to view the latest Android tablets, all-in-one desktops and award-winning ThinkPad laptops. Representatives are available to answer your questions and assist with order placement at 877-222-6426, ext. 3077.

FedEx Kinko’s Office and Print Center offers current DOE employees 15 percent off on most products and services. For more information, visit Kinko’s Educator Savings Program webpage.

You look marvelous

You can join the New York Sports Clubs at a discounted rate. New membership is only available online at www.companiesgetfit.com using your DOE-issued email address.

Crunch Gym offers New York City DOE employees discounted membership rates as well as a three-day complimentary pass (some restrictions apply). For more information on the rates, membership, complimentary three-day pass, classes and locations, contact Amy Hart at ahart@crunch.com.

The New York Health & Racquet Club now offers a discounted membership of $75 per month to all New York City DOE employees, spouse/domestic partners, and DOE retirees. Membership features include a variety of daily classes, pool, whirlpool, steam room, sauna and eucalyptus room. To enroll or for club locations, go to http://workfit.nyhrc.com. The DOE has also partnered with Gold’s Gym to provide discounted membership rates to DOE employees (current and retired) at their locations at Crossbay Boulevard in Howard Beach and on Livingston Street in Brooklyn. This offer allows you to get a Gold’s Gym membership for a $150 initiation fee and $36.44 per month, or a $98 initiation fee and $46.86 per month. For more information, call 718-845-4653.

The New York Times offers K-12 teachers a discount of up to 50 percent off the normal subscription cost on home delivery of the newspaper. To enroll, call 1-800-NY-TIMES.

The Wall Street Journal offers up to 50 percent off the normal subscription cost for its online and print editions. The discount is available only to in-service K-12 teachers and librarians. Educators are offered an academic-year subscription of 36 weeks. To enroll, call 1-800-975-8602 or visit www.wsj.com/prof.

Theater Development Fund vouchers offer steep discounts to Broadway, Off-Broadway, music and dance productions. To apply, call 212-221-0885 or visit www.tdf.org.

Savings Bond purchase program

Employees have the opportunity to purchase United States Savings Bonds (Series EE or I) and pay for them through regular payroll deductions. Visit the New York City Office of Payroll Administration webpage to learn more.

Retail therapy

CityStore: DOE employees receive a 10 percent discount on books, gifts and collectibles. Visit 1 Centre St. — North Plaza (Manhattan Municipal Building). City employee identification required.

Ann Taylor LOFT: Educators receive 15 percent off every time they shop at a LOFT store. Visit www.loftlovesteachers.com for complete program details.

J.Crew: Bring your school ID to any J.Crew retail or factory location and receive an exclusive 15 percent off every time you shop. For store locations, visit www.jcrew.com. Banana Republic: Through its “Style 101” program, Banana Republic offers a 15 percent discount every day to students and teachers with valid IDs at stores in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.
