Parents & the UFT

[This letter was originally published in the New York Post.]

The United Federation of Teachers and parent groups, including the Chancellor’s Parent Advisory Council, have a long history of working together on behalf of New York City’s schools (“Parents Do UFT’s Lobbying,” March 3).

The UFT chartered buses so that parents and the CPAC were able to go with us to Albany this week to lobby on behalf of the city’s public school children.

We were also happy to provide lunch and other assistance, including copying services for the position papers the parents created on their own for legislators to review.

While the Bloomberg administration may give occasional lip service to the role of parents, New Yorkers know that teachers are the real allies for parents and kids in both New York City and in Albany.
