What makes a good teacher
published January 13, 2012
[This letter was originally published in the New York Daily News on Jan. 13, 2012.]
Bronx: Re “Mulgrew vs. the kids” (editorial, Jan. 8): I want to thank the Daily News for recognizing how important teachers are to a young person’s life. However, the way to measure a teacher’s worth is not just by a score on a test. The United Federation of Teachers has agreed to have a teacher evaluation system based on test scores. However, there was also a recognition that good teaching is not just test scores, but student work throughout the year.
