All workers should be off on Thanksgiving
published November 24, 2011
To the Editor:
Each year, it seems that more and more businesses are choosing to be open on Thanksgiving Day, a national holiday. It’s a day to gather with family and friends to give thanks for the many blessings which we have received.
It is very unfair for businesses, including supermarkets and other retail food outlets, to be open on this day. The employees of these establishments have families and friends that they should be able to be with on Thanksgiving. They should be at home, not at work.
All business establishments need to put the meaning of this holiday before that of the almighty dollar. Happy Thanksgiving!
John Amato, DOE Non-Public Schools (District 64)
