Misplaced blame and anger

To the Editor:

Wall Street “greed” is not the sole problem. Wall Street, too, is a victim of Washington, D.C. If the protestors want to get to the source of Wall Street’s problems, look to our government that deliberately:

  • does not enforce trading rules
  • does not punish brokers and corporations for breaking laws
  • bails out and partners with corporations
  • accepts political contributions from corporations and brokers
  • accepts Democratic fundraising from Wall Street CEOs like ex-Gov. Jon Corzine, who has held two fundraising events for Barack Obama, one in 2007 when he was state senator and another just last month.
  • Makes loans to failing companies, and so on.

Also, I agree with Florence and Sheldon Hyman’s letter [Oct. 27 issue] chastising UFT President Michael Mulgrew for endorsing and participating in demonstrations against Wall Street — a system that is at the core of America and of our pensions. President Mulgrew is acting against the well-being of our membership.
