african heritage committee

The African Heritage Committee's purpose is to develop programs and educational activities that create awareness and foster appreciation of African culture and contributions.

assoc.teachers of social studies

The mission of the Association of Teachers of Social Studies is to provide a network through which Social Studies educators and other related professionals can advocate for Social Studies education and share scholarship, information, strategies and practices related to those issues that are both important and relevant to Social Studies instruction.


dance educators

New York City Dance Educators (NYCDE) is dedicated to ensuring that dance is an integral part of every NYC public school student's education.


esl / bilingual committee

The ESL/Bilingual Committee's goal is to help students learning English as a second language function as full members of society.

foreign language

The Foreign Language Committee is dedicated to assisting foreign language teachers of New York City. We provide opportunities for professional growth through a variety of activities and services such as conferences, staff development, workshops and newsletters.

green schools committee

The mission of our Committee is to help design and support best management practices for greening NYC's public schools. We believe schools must take the lead in reducing our City's ecological footprint by providing our City's children, our future leaders, with an environmental education and exemplary environmental programs.


hellenic american educators

The Hellenic American Educators Association of the UFT represents members of the Greek community working in the New York City public school system.

hispanic affairs committee

The Hispanic Affairs Committee is dedicated to creating a forum where all educators, especially Latino educators, can have a voice in ensuring quality teaching and high standards for all students.

humane education committee

The Humane Education Committee infuses information fostering empathy and responsibility to animals into other curricula areas including science and language arts.


irish american studies

The Irish American Studies Committee aims to disseminate information about the culture, literature and history of the Irish people.

italian american committee

The committee is dedicated to the study and preservation of the Italian American tradition and its many contributions to American culture, the labor movement and the teaching profession. The IAC actively seeks to recruit teaching professionals and support staff who share an interest in this tradition and can offer their academic experience and organizational skills to achieve the committee’s goals.

jewish heritage committee

The objective of the Jewish Heritage Committee is to enhance the understanding among all educators of the role of the Jewish Community in New York City.


new york city art teachers

The New York State Art Teachers Association encourages and supports art educators and advocates for quality art programs in all levels of education.


outdoor-environmental education

The Outdoor-Environmental Education Committee gathers and disseminates information about the environment and outdoor facilities and activities available to educators and the school community.


players committee

The Players Committee provides opportunities for UFT members to explore and express creativity through a variety of theater arts activities, and to celebrate our talents, diversity and sense of community.

runners committee

The UFT Runners is a group of educators dedicated to the pursuit of mental and physical fitness through running and related activities.


science committee

The Science Committee, a professional committee of the UFT, was established to provide members with opportunities to hone their expertise in the sciences. At the Committee's monthly meetings, lectures and/or workshops are given by fellow teachers and presenters from the scientific and engineering academic and industrial communities.

veterans

The UFT Veterans Committee aims to make educators and the American public aware of issues that affect veterans in the areas of public education and union participation, and to serve as the bridge connecting the labor movement and organized veterans in an effort to promote economic and social justice.

women's rights committee

The UFT Women’s Rights Committee engages in an ongoing recruitment process involving new teachers, regular teachers, support staff, retirees, and other trade unionists who can offer their experience and expertise in the areas of Women’s Rights.
